The Judy M. Braithwaite Family Foundation, Inc. was incorporated in the Commonwealth of Virginia on January 20, 1999. As stated in its articles of incorporation, “the sole purpose of the Foundation is to memorialize the achievements of the late Judy M. Braithwaite by awarding an annual scholarship to a graduating senior from Hampton High School,” located in Hampton, Virginia https://hampton.gov/.
After incorporating, an application for the JMBF Foundation, Inc. Scholarship was developed and a competitive process was created to disseminate the application to graduating seniors at Hampton High School who possessed outstanding intellectual talent, showed evidence of consistent community service, and had a strong sense of social justice. In year 2017, an electronic application and review system was established to refine and enhance the selection process.
Since its inception, the Guidance department at Hampton High School has been committed to disseminating the JMBF Foundation Scholarship Application broadly and has assisted with gathering a strong pool of candidates from which to select an annual scholarship recipient. Concomitant with the development of the application, review and selection process, family members, friends and associate donors of the Braithwaite family have contributed financially since established to sustain the viability of the Foundation.
